Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3)
The entire materials cycle, from exploration and extraction to characterisation, processing, forming, finishing, and application to product recycling and land reuse, is covered by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining( IOM3), an engineering institution in the UK. As a leading authority in the global materials and mining community, it exists to advance and develop all facets of materials science and engineering, geology, mining and related technologies, mineral and petroleum engineering and extraction metallurgy. It is a royally governed, registered charity with an annual gross income of£ 3.86 million as of 2021. The institution belongs to the UK Science Council as well. The Iron and Steel Institute, a learned society that IOM3 now includes, was founded 150 years ago, and the institute celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019. IOM3 advises members to participate in an annual CPD program and document their activities with a reflective statement, regardless of their grade or career stage. Although the duration is not required, it is advised that 35 hours will be enough to maintain competency and show the required dedication to professional standards.
