Emergency Medicine Royal College was founded to advance emergency medicine research and education. In addition to recommending trainees for CCT in Emergency Medicine, the College is in charge of establishing standards for training and administering exams in emergency medicine for the award of Fellowship and Membership. By establishing and monitoring standards of care and offering knowledgeable guidance and policy advice to pertinent bodies on issues relating to emergency medicine, the College works to ensure high-quality care. Historically, RCEM and other colleges and faculties believed that the minimum requirement for emergency physicians was 250 hours of relevant CPD in any given 5year period, or 50 hours on average annually.
