The General Dental Council (GDC)
he General Dental Council (GDC) is the official regulator for approximately 110,000 members of the dental professional staff in the United Kingdom. Their major goal is to ensure patient safety and public trust in dental services. To accomplish this, they register competent dental practitioners, establish professional standards, evaluate complaints about the fitness of dental professionals to practise, and endeavour to assure the quality of dental education. CPD involvement is required as part of GDC registration. Over a five-year cycle, all dentists must complete 100 hours of approved CPD. Dental nurses and dental technicians must complete a minimum of 50 hours of verifiable CPD every five years under the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018. Dental therapists, dental hygienists, orthodontic therapists, and clinical dental technicians must complete at least 75 hours of verifiable continuing education. In every two-year period at least 10h of verifiable CPD must be completed.
