The Law Society

The independent professional organization for English and Welsh solicitors is called the Law Society. They act as lawyers' voices to promote professional excellence, protect the law's rule and make sure nobody is above the law at all times. In addition they safeguard everyone's access to justice. The Solicitors Regulation Authority receives the annual fee for solicitors' practising certificates. On November 1, 2016, continuing competence took the place of continuing professional development (CPD). There is no set requirement on how many hours a member must spend learning; any activity that satisfies their learning needs counts toward continuing competence. Upon renewal of the practice certificate, each member is required to submit an annual declaration. Members have, according to the annual declaration, which should document they have considered their practice and that any needs for learning and development were identified and met.
