The CPD accreditation market is growing. More training providers than ever are seeking accreditation for their courses, webinars, events, and other learning activities - and with good reason. In a world where professionals are under increasing pressure to demonstrate the value of their development, having a credible, independently verified badge behind your training matters.
But not all accreditation is equal. In a market that is largely unregulated, the gap between a rigorous, meaningful accreditation and one that amounts to little more than a logo can be significant. Choosing your accreditation body - what to ask
Is the accreditation body itself independently certified?
This is the single most important question you can ask - and one that most providers never think to raise. Anyone can set up an accreditation body, create a badge, and issue certificates. What very few can do is demonstrate that their own standards and processes have been independently assessed and verified by an external certification body.
The CPD Group was the first CPD accreditation organisation to receive certification from The CPD Register. We didn't declare our own quality. We had to prove it. When choosing an accreditation body, always ask: are they certified? And if so, by whom?
Are the assessment criteria transparent?
A credible accreditation body should be able to tell you exactly what they assess and why. Vague criteria or a lack of published standards are red flags. Buying training content - what to check first
The content you submit for accreditation matters just as much as the body you choose. With ready-made training materials available from marketplaces like Etsy to content libraries and template sites, it has never been easier to pick up a course pack and put your name to it. But easier does not always mean better.
Buying off-the-shelf content is not inherently wrong - but it comes with responsibility. The most credible training providers bring genuine expertise and real-world experience to the content they deliver. A downloaded manual with your logo on it is not the same as training shaped by someone who truly knows their field.
Learners are savvier than they used to be. Employers are more discerning. The ones who stand out are those who can demonstrate real expertise - not just a polished presentation.

Are the learning objectives clearly defined?
What will your learners be able to do differently after completing this? If the content cannot answer that clearly, it is not ready for accreditation.
Has it been reviewed by a subject matter expert?
Always ask who created the content, what their credentials are, and when it was last reviewed. Content signed off by a genuine expert is non-negotiable.
Is it structured for learning - or just for consumption?
Good training content has clear structure, defined outcomes, and logical progression. If it reads more like a document than a learning experience, that is worth questioning.
Does it have a defined duration?
CPD is measured in hours. Content without a defined duration cannot be properly assessed - and tells you something about the care that has gone into producing it.
Is it relevant and up to date?
Always check when content was last reviewed. If the seller cannot tell you, that is a red flag.
Do you have the rights to use it?
Always check the licence terms. Some content is sold for personal use only and prohibits resale or commercial use. Submitting content you do not have the rights to use could expose you to serious legal and reputational risk.
