Powering Excellence: The Role of CPD in the Electrical Industry

In an ever-evolving industry, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies, skills, and trends is crucial. Whether you're just starting out or already an expert, Continuous Professional Development is vital.

Keeping pace with the latest safety standards and innovative practices ensures that you remain well-equipped and current in the dynamic landscape of the electrical world.

At The CPD Group, we take pride in our collaborations with esteemed providers. Within the electrical industry, we have established a strong partnership with Hamerville Media Group - Professional Electrician & Installer

They obtained approved provider status in November 2022 and have successfully accredited a year's worth of Edutorials, with the first one in January 2023.

Last year, The CPD Group introduced the groundbreaking Edutorial accreditation. This user-friendly service allows individuals to select the number of publications they wish to accredit and enables them to personally submit their articles for assessment. It's a straightforward solution, and the Hamerville Media Group were among the early adopters of this innovative approach!

In October last year Richard Bowler, the editor for Professional Electrician & Installer Magazine featured on a CPD TV Podcast. He opened up about the importance of CPD within the electrical industry.

Although there is not currently a minimum amount of hours of CPD listed for individuals under the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS), Richard stated that “there will likely be a mandatory requirement for an electrician to prove a certain number of hours of CPD per year” in the near future.

Let’s delve a little deeper into the world of CPD for electricians…

The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) stated that

“CPD is a key component in maintaining and developing competence and is something that all persons working in the electrotechnical industry should be encouraged to undertake. Competence can become out of date or can be impacted by new technology or work streams."

So, CPD can apply to anyone looking to gain new skills or develop their existing knowledge within their career. There is a broad range of courses available to suit every skill level, from beginners to experienced electricians.

The electrical industry is witnessing rapid technological advancements, from renewable energy solutions to smart grids. Engaging in CPD makes sure that professionals are well-equipped with the appropriate knowledge and skills required to harness the power of these innovations.

Regulations and safety standards within the electrical industry are constantly evolving. CPD ensures that professionals are well-versed in the latest compliance requirements, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring a high level of safety for both workers and end users.

Employers and clients alike recognise the value of professionals committed to ongoing learning. CPD is not just about maintaining competence; it's about demonstrating a commitment to excellence. This dedication often translates into enhanced career opportunities, promotions, and increased professional recognition.

Continuous Professional Development is not merely a checkbox on a career to-do list; it's a commitment to excellence, innovation, and safety in the dynamic world of electrical engineering.
